Situated near the Minnesota/Iowa border, Mower County is well-known to major players in the wind industry. enXco, Horizon, Florida Power & Light all have a substantial presence in the area. By 2011, over 1,000 wind turbines are expected to be in operation within a 50 mile radius of Mower County.

Cook Farm Industrial Park in Austin Minnesota is adjacent to rail, within a 2 mile of Interstate 90 and minutes from Interstate 35. Dexter Industrial Park is in the heart of hundreds of megawatts of wind energy and on Interstate 90.

Mower County is less than 500 miles from most locations in Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin.

Industry Workforce

With a manufacturing workforce of over 22,000 in a six county region, this area embraces industry. Riverland Community College, with three local campuses, offers a wind turbine technician program through the Construction Electrician and Industrial Maintenance and Mechanics Programs.
